Student Lounge - Grade 8

There will be no FLEX sign up tomorrow due to Early Dismissal.

The school council will be hosting a Used Book Sale in the library on Monday January 30th from 9 am to 8 pm! We are accepting donations of gently used books until January 27th. There is a drop off box in the library.

The next Junior Boys practice will be Fri at lunch, we will not be practicing tonight.

There will be a choir practice today

There will be a basketball scrimmage for any junior or senior girls team members today at 12:14. You will play right away for 15-20 minutes, then have time to eat your lunch.

Call Backs for Mr. Winkler’s Birthday Party will be held today after school.  Please come to the drama room at 3:15 if your name is on the call back list - these are only actors that we want to see a little bit more from before we post the final cast list tomorrow morning!

Student Lounge - grade 9

Students, please be sure to have a pencil and an eraser for your homeroom period 3 class. Please go directly to your homeroom after the break and be ready to begin class when the bell rings at 10:15. Thank you.

Students who auditioned for the Drama play: we have not yet decided on our cast and we would like a see a few of you a second time. Please see the drama room door for the list of call-backs. This second round of auditions will take place Thursday at 3:15.

If your name is not on the call back list, that does not mean you didn’t make the play.

The list of students who made the play will be decided on and posted by this Friday morning.

Any homeroom teachers who have not yet picked up your survey packages from the main office, please do so immediately following the announcements.

French Band practice after school today

All students who gave Mrs. DeBoer a set/costume crew application please meet in Mrs. DeBoer’s room today at 12:34 for a brief meeting.

The Grade 8 Band students who signed up for FOODS & TEXTILES are to meet Mrs. Nessel for FLEX period 4 & 5 today.

The students that signed up for the Mixed Martial Arts workout block 4 today should change into their gym clothes for the workout. Please also bring your water bottle if you have one.

Parent Council has arranged for a fun  and exciting evening for all the students of JE Lapointe School.  Come on out February 8 from 7pm to 9:30pm for A Much Music Dance Party!  Much Music provides a large screen for music videos, DJ lighting, fog machines, a live DJ and the chance for everyone to request the music they want to hear.  We also have door prizes to be won!  This is for you!  The students!  Come out and enjoy something new!  Tickets go on sale at lunch hour the week of January 30!  $10 that week or $13 at the door!

PIZZA TUESDAY!  

Junior Boys Basketball - there will be no practice today at lunch, please be ready at 7:10 tomorrow morning.

Attention all skiers and snowboarders - The Rabbit Hill ski club will once again be heading to the slopes Monday nights during February and March. The first night is Monday, Feb.13. The club is open to everyone, experienced to beginners. Look for registration forms to be available in the near future.

Also - Who wants to go to Jasper for a day at Marmot Basin? The Jasper Ski trip will be heading to the slopes on Friday, March 10. There are only 40 seats and they are sold on a first come first served basis. Registration form will be available soon. Listen to the announcements for updates or see Mrs. Nessel for more information.

Last chance for anyone in sewing  to order from classy threads. Gr, 8 band students this does include you. Please see Mrs. Nessel by the end of the day if you are wanting to order. Orders will be placed tonight.

Congratulations to the senior boys basketball team on winning the Leduc Junior High Basketball Tournament this weekend.  Additional congrats go to Logan Gierke in winning the three point contest and Isaac Hokanson for taking home the team MVP.  Finally, congratulations to Nyasha Mubayiwa for qualifying for the Alberta Basketball 15 and Under Provincial Team this weekend.  Well done boys!  Finally, practice is tomorrow after school at 305.

We would like to welcome Mr. Tran to our school.  Mr. Tran will be the 8A homeroom teacher for the next couple months while Mrs. Buzak is on a leave of absence.  Welcome Mr. Tran!

Are you interested in learning to write a script, run auditions for your play, and direct a mini skit? Sign up for “Script Writing” with Mrs. DeBoer. We will write our scripts for periods 4&5 next week during Flex and again the following Flex Then we will work on casting, directing and presenting our plays! Sign up on your own or with a partner.

Congrats to the Junior boys for defeating Dansereau by 3 with clutch foul shooting!!! There will be no practice today, we will practice Monday at lunch instead.

Good job to the Junior Girls, who for most of you, played in their first EVER junior high basketball game. You did your best and your coaches are proud.

FLEX sign up: Grade 9’s: block 1 and 2, grade 7’s block 3 and 4 grade 8’s block 5 or later. Grade 9 french Immersion students you will not be signing up as you are preparing for Carnaval.

Student Lounge -8DE

Do you have an interest in art? Ever wonder what it would be like to visually create the scenes of one of your favourite books, or an original story of your own? If this sounds like you, then sign up for the new Graphic Novel Design session in FLEX! During this 7 week session, you will learn about comic book techniques, scripting and visualisation. You will also have the opportunity to work independently, with a partner or a small group of peers to complete a graphic novel.

Student Lounge - 8ABC

Auditions for this year’s drama production are this week Thurs. If you are interested in auditioning, please go to the drama room door to sign up for a time and get further instructions.

We are also looking for students to help out with set and costumes. Application forms for these roles are also by the drama room. Hand in completed applications to Mrs. DeBoer by next week Wednesday.

Students that are sewing in home ec - your Classy Threads order is due today. If you forgot please talk to Mrs. Nessel at noon about ordering.

Congrats to both of the senior basketball teams on their wins over Riverview last night.  It was an especially big win for the girls after scoring the winning bucket with 6.4 seconds left in the game!
