Friday, December 23, 2011 - Day 5

  • The staff at École J. E. Lapointe School would like to wish our students and their families a wonderful Christmas break, classes will resume on January 9th.

  • January newsletter will be available after the break, reminder that Wednesday, January 11th will be early dismissal.

  • Powerschool parent portal for our junior high students will be up and running in January. A letter will be sent home describing registration. If your address has changed please email the school at jel.office@temp.blackgold.ca

  • Premier Girls practice tonight at 3:20. – 4:15

  • District boys basketball practice at 12:15pm today!

  • 8B foods students please come down to the home ec room and do your meal planning for next class, because we will be at the Waterpark on Friday.

  • The Day 4 choir is going to the Nisku Inn today. Please meet in the front of the school at the start of period 5.

  • Band members are reminded to hand in their practice and theory by Friday please.

  • The first edition of sabres news is ready for your viewing- teachers please check your emails this morning on how to access the file and show your class.

Monday, December 19, 2011 - Day 1

  • The Spelling Bee will take place today, right after school, in room 112.

  • The study buddy program will run today and tomorrow only due to Christmas activities. Study buddies please check the schedule for room allocations. Teachers a schedule has been placed in your mailbox .

  • District boys basketball practice will be tomorrow at noon.

  • Premier boys basketball practice will be today at 3:30.

  • Term 1 option B basketball students, we will be having a brief presentation in the gym tomorrow at noon.  All students must attend.

  • The Day 2 Choir is going to the Nisku Inn today. We will be picking up the choir students at the pool. Any of the choir students at the school should meet Mrs. Baron by the front doors at the end of period 4.

    The Day 4 Choir will be going to the Nisku Inn tomorrow.

  • District girls basketball practice will be at 7:30am tomorrow morning.

  • Attention to the remaining students who have registered for Speech Arts. Please meet Ms. Colquhoun in Room 117 today at 12 noon to begin choosing your poem. If you have already chosen your poem with Ms. Colquhoun, you do not need to come today.

  • Premier girls basketball practice at noon today.

  • CANDYGRAMS – The grade 6D students will be hosting a Candygram sale to raise money for the Children’s Stollery Foundation.  Here’s your chance to give to your friends.  Come and buy candy canes for yourself or for your friends today  at noon in the front lobby.  Candy canes will cost $0.50 each.  They will be delivered next Tuesday at lunch.  Please ask your homeroom teachers for your candygram  card to fill out before coming to the front lobby.

  • Choir practice for all members going to the Nisku Inn next week today at noon in the music room.

  • Great job last night to all band and choir members. It was an excellent concert and a fabulous night of Christmas music.

  • To all students who loved doing the Spelling Bee in class – come on out to the J. E. Lapointe, 5th annual School Bee.  The bee will take place on Monday, at 3:30pm.  The winner of this bee will go on to represent J. E. Lapointe in the next round of the Scripps Spelling Competition.  Please see Ms. Chromiak if you have any questions.

  • Attention all grade 4 and 5 students who have registered for Speech Arts. Please meet Ms. Colquhoun in Room 117 today at 12 noon to begin choosing your poem. If you have already chosen your poem with Ms. Colquhoun and Mrs. Marshall, you do not need to come today.

  • The band and choir concert is tonight at 7 pm. Our Grade 6 Band, Jr. High Band, Day 2 Choir and Day 4 Choir are all performing.

    Band members are asked to be at the school by 6 pm.
    Choir members can arrive at 6:30pm.
    Please wear any combination of black, white, red or green…

    Band 6, please use the Tech Ed room for warm-up.
    Band 7/8, please use the music room for warm-up.
    Choir members can go to the risers in the gym when they arrive.

  • Nisku Inn permission forms are due. Please make sure you give yours to Mrs. Baron before you leave school today.

  •  ATTENTION CHOIR MEMBERS: There will be a combined choir practice tomorrow at noon to prepare for the Nisku Inn performance next week. If you do not come to the practice, you will not be allowed to go next week, as this will be our only practice before the performance.

Monday, December 12, 2011 - Day 1

  • Choir members are asked to return to their Nisku Inn permission forms to Mrs.Baron by tomorrow please.

  • SNOW BIZ, our grade 4 & 5 elementary musical is tomorrow! Students and teachers are reminded that there are 2 shows; one at 6pm and the 2nd at 7:15pm. Students perform at both, but parents are asked to only attend ONE. Grade 4A, 4B, 4/5S and 5A parents attend the early 6pm show and all other parents attend the 7:15 pm show.

  • The band and choir concert is this Thursday, Dec. 14th at 7 pm. Everyone is invited to attend this great Christmas holiday concert!

  • Because of all the concerts going on this week, choir practices at noon are cancelled.

  • The last try-out for District boys basketball is today at noon.

  • District girls basketball tryouts Tuesday morning at 7:30am.

  • Christmas Elves hamper in the office -École J.E Lapointe School has been asked to donate the following→paper products, personal hygiene products (deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste), non-perishable foods. Deadline is December 12th as Christmas Elves will be picking up the box on December 13th. Thank you to all who have donated so far.

  • We have bad news for our potential super Slade Science Olympians.  Registration is now full so we will not be able to submit a team for registration this year.  Next year we will show the other schools how to split atoms and explain magnetic elevation due to superconductivity.  Thanks to those who expressed an interest.

  • Attention Grade 4 & 5 Teachers. There has been a change in SNOW BIZ practice times for today. This is the new plan;

    All grade 5 classes practice in music room from 8:30 – 9:30am

    All grade 4 classes practice in music room from 9:30 – 10:30am

    Anyone who has a speaking part is supposed to stay for both!

  • Premier boys basketball practice on Monday. Premier girls practice today at noon.

  • Would all premier boys and girls basketball players please meet in room 109 during the 10:30 break.

  • Photo retakes will be going home today.

  • If you’re interested in a Beaumont Youth Calendar for December, please come to the office for one.

  • Are you a budding scientist in junior high?  Are you the next Albert Einstein or SUPER Slade ?  If so, why not try the Science Olympics?  It is a fun, science learning event where students can showcase their science talent, problem solving skills, and teamwork. Science Olympics is a hands-on, interschool science competition being held in March so we need to get our team together now.  If interested, come to room 109 at 12:25 TODAY for an information meeting.

  • Do you have change jingling in your pocket that you just don’t know how to spend? Have you got a sweet tooth that needs a little taste o’ candy?  Listen Up!  We’ve got the solution to your problem!  Tomorrow, at lunch, come on down to the concession in the Home Ec room!

  • Attention study buddies – Please come to the Home ec room at 12:20 on Thursday for a short organizational meeting, The program will start next week. Interested in joining, please attend this meeting.

  • Reminder to all grade 7 sewing students to please remember to bring in their sewing supplies this week.

  • Any grade 8 foods students that missed their menu planning class last week is to see Mrs. Nessel before their class this week.

  • All choir members – day 2 and day 4, are asked to come to for  practice tomorrow. This is a very important combined practice for our concerts this weekend. Mrs. Baron will also be handing out a very important note, so please remember to come.

  • November theory and practice were due last week. Today is the last day that they will be accepted, so please remember to hand them in today.

  • It’s Speech Arts time again! All students who are interested in participating in the Leduc Rotary Festival in the Speech Arts category please see Ms. Colquhoun at 12 noon today in Room 117 for a registration form. Registration forms need to be back to Ms. Colquhoun by Friday, December 9th.
